15 movie mistakes

Starwars
When the stormtroppers break into the control room, the strom trooper on the right of the screen hits his head on the door frame. On the DVD release they’ve added a thump when he hits it.

Commando
The yellow Porsche is totally wrecked on the left side, until Arnie drives it away, and it’s fine.

Gladiator
In the “Battle of Carthage” in the Colosseum, one of the chariots is turned over. Once the dust settles you can see a gas cylinder in the back.

Spiderman
In the scene where Mary Jane is being mugged by four men, Spiderman throws two of the men into two windows behind Mary Jane. Then the camera goes back to Spiderman beating up the other two guys. When the camera goes back to Mary Jane the two windows are intact!

Terminator 3
In the scene where John & Catherine are in the hangar at the runway, the Cessna’s tail number is N3035C. When the plane is shown in the air, the number is N9373F. When they land, the tail number has changed back to N3035C.

The matrix
In the scene where Agent Smith is interrogating Neo, after Smith has sealed Neo’s mouth shut and he is backed into the corner, when the camera cuts back to Smtih you can clearly see a reflection in his glasses of Neo still sitting down in the chair.

The lord of the Rings
Merry and Pippin were bound when taken by the Uruk-hai, and the bonds weren’t cut until after they managed to escape druing the fight. Yet, when the horse almost crashed down on Pippin, he had his arms spread out up near his face, not bound, even though they weren’t cut until later. In the next shot, his hands are bound again.

Black Hawk Down
Near the end of the movie when the convoy is heading back to the Pakistan Stadium, a Humvee stops briefly to allow a man to walk across the street with a child in his arms. When the shot changes and the Humvee begins driving again, a crew member or cameraman is seen inside the Humvee wearing a white shirt.

Harry Potter
At the begining of the scene near the end of the movie with Lucius Malfoy fuming at Dumbledore in his office, Malfoy’s hair is fanned back behind his shoulders. The lighting in the room illuminates the back of his neck, where you can see his real, short brown hair.

American pie
In the bedroom scene the girl is holding a clear cup full of beer. The camera goes off her and when it comes back she is holding a blue cup. The camera goes back off her then on her and the cup is clear again.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Just as jack says, “On deck, you scabrous dogs,” to the very left edge of the screen over Jack’s shoulder is a grip crew member with a tan cowboy hat, white short sleeve T-shirt and sunglasses, just standing there looking.

Harry Potter
At the start of term feast, after Harry is sorted into Gryffindor, he sits down on the right side of the table next to Ron. When the feast appears, Harry is on the other side of the table, next to Hermione.

The lord of the Rings
In the second half of the film, Frodo has a scar on his lower right cheek, close to his chin. Many times throughout the rest of the film the scar changes position and size on his right cheek. It also appears on his left cheek in flipped shots (most obviously on the slopes of Mount Doom).

X-men
In the end , when the President is visited by the X-men, he receives a blue binder, which is laid in front of him on the table. When the have left, you see a shot including the President’s desk, and you can see that binder changed to white.

The lord of the Rings
As Boromir and Aragorn talk right before Boromir dies, you can see Boromir’s right hand gripping Aragorn’s left shoulder in the shot from behind Aragorn’s right shoulder, but when the camera view changes to Boromir’s perspective, looking up at Aragorn, his hand is not there. The scene goes back and forth between these two views serveral times.

  3. I spotted one a few years back in American History X. When the policeman picks up Derek he starts with one hand and it switches to the other when the camera changes.

What about the other big Arnie-Related mistake in Predator?

When Dillon (Carl Weathers) gets his arm shot off, he turns round and his arm is clearly visible ‘hidden’ under his waistcoat.

Maybe someone could enlighten me, I’ve never understood the fascination with movie gaffes. OK, things like the stormtrooper banging his head or the gas canister in the back of the chariot are pretty funny, but the fact that for a split second you can see Jason Isaacs’ real hairline under his wig (is it even ordinarily visible, or was it a freezeframe job?) - who cares?

  6. John, you are quite right. The guy banging his head - funny. The fact that someone was working out the reflections in a pair of sunglasses - sad.

    Pippin’s hands untie themselves:

I believe in the extended edition it shows him cutting the ropes on an object. :)

  8. It does…Pippin uses either a rock or a random dagger on the ground…

  9. The reflections in #6:

The watchowskis have been very deliberate about the sunglasses images thorought the movie, using the mirror to show “through the illusion” whenever possible. It’s possible the seated neo represented him in a safe place, even though the neo in the corner was unable to speak/breathe and panicking. This same example is in the reflection of neo reaching for the pill as reflected in morpheus’ glasses in a later scene.

  11. The American Pie one actually have an explanation. In the unrated version of the movie you get to see the clear cup, but in the rated version it´s blue in all the scenes. That was to get by the ratingboard. At least that’s what I´ve heard. Do belive it is mentioned on the DVD commentary.

you have to much time on your hands, I hope you can give it to some one that can use it wisely, like a cancer patient.

  13. You know, for a page dedicated to movie mistakes, I find it lol-able that you can’t even call the movie by its proper name. It’s called Harry Potter and the SORCERER’s Stone. You fail at life.

  14. John

Oh I hope you’re k- no, I hope you’re not kidding, it’s funnier that way. The film, like the (British) book, was released under different names in the UK and US. Over here, where we know what a philosopher is, it was called Philosopher’s Stone, after the mysterious artefact of ancient legend. In America it was renamed Sorcerer’s Stone, because it sounds better than “Harry Potter and the Magic Rock”.

So you either fail at life, or win at sarcasm but lose points for using the phrase “fail at life”.

i’m from argentina, mendoza. i think this mistakes we see in the pictures and that are funny are done to make us enjoy the movie as well as posible, to show reality. One of the objectives of the tv is to show it. It is difficult, so they try to make it…We’ll always find these mistakes, but i think we can enjoy them, too!!

    bye!!!

    =)

I typically am only bothered by continuity errors in films if I notice them upon viewing and they take me out of the film. Some of these seem to be the result of someone searching for errors.

Oh, btw…you misspelled Smith in the description of the Matrix above…

“In the scene where Agent Smith is interrogating Neo, after Smith has sealed Neo’s mouth shut and he is backed into the corner, when the camera cuts back to Smtih you can clearly see a reflection in his glasses of Neo still sitting down in the chair.”

Pippin’s hands do not untie themselves. Even in the unextended version, he is shown scooting over to a sharp object- I can’t remember if it was an upturned ax or a different kind of blade- and he viciously saws away at the rope. That’s when he falls over onto his back, finally free of the rope, and the horse is seem looming over him.

Good job catching these! =) They gave me a laugh.

Stephen - Harry Potter was called by its original title ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ in the U.K (perhaps in other countries too). The book and film title was changed for the U.S as it probably didn’t sound ‘exciting’ enough. So the author of this article is more than correct.

Uh, Clintorius? Interesting. Anyway, no need to point out a bloody TYPO in the spelling of “Smith.” It is pretty obvious that the author knows how to spell it. I know you will never see this, but still.

well, sandra…like i said, if it is an error that brings me out of the movie, then i’ll probably notice it. most of these mistakes are less noticeable to me than a typo.

I noticed a massive mistake on the DvD cover of Escape from New York. On the cover the eyepatch is clearly visible on Kurt Russel’s Right eye, although in the rest of the movie and the next it is on the left, I have noticed that this is not the same for every DvD cover but the copy I own does, as a bonus i have included a poster in a foreign language that clearly strengthens my case.

The scene right after the guy from munk attacks the guy with red hair he falls backwards and you can see the directors face in the glass behind him watching.

In one of the Rocky movies, I think number 3, there is a little montage of clips in which Rocky is wearing the USA flag shorts he that he hasn’t even been given yet by apollo! (this one i noticed myself)

These other two I just heard about but can confirm!

In Teen Wolf at the end basketball scene, one of the extras in the stands in the background gets his penis out! Haha

In Gremlins one, when the guy’s mum is lookin for gremlins around the House, one is in the christmas tree, which starts to shake, when it falls over you can clearly see there was man standing behind it shaking it hehe

    Enjoy!
