At the very first second of Steve Jobs announced iPhone 3G and I was stunned to it’s priced as low as $199 start, I’m sure that many of 1st gen iPhone users [especially in China] started to panic… well, don’t be!
3G coverage in China = Zero.
Firstly lets just talk about the networking service in China, from what I’ve read that a) we don’t have 3G coverage yet, while China Mobile (中国移动) struggling with that proprietary TD-SCDMA or whatever, however it still waiting for approval, and I was wondering b) whether the upcoming iPhone 3G will be compatible in China if it’s unlocked?
This is a significant problem and we can’t solve it by ourselves unless Apple has made a deal with the operators or government, which I’m sorry to say, remains an unattainable dream.
Is it worth?!
Besides the network issue, lets get back to iPhone 3G itself, I was expected to spending money on something some improved features that I could use, once again, it failed me!
- It coated with some plastics instead of Aluminum
- It came with retained 2.0 mega pixels camera (which I hate it)
- Still no video record capability?
- No SIM card eject tool

…
Will I buy it instantly? The anwser is NO! So far I’m happy with my 1st gen iPhone so I’ll probably stick with it. What about you?

I always want to own an iPhone. After I know about that iPhone will launch a 3G version and which is only $199, I began to connect some of my frens who are studying in U.S of CA and ask them bring one back for me when they back to China. But here I learned more about it which mashable, Techcrunch and other media didn’t tell me. Thank you Yichi!
- It coated with some plastics instead of Aluminum? [still nothing.]
- No SIM card eject tool. [OMG!!!]
Maybe a N73 will be better for me.

3G is a step in the right direction, however, like you mentioned there are a few features that the iphone is missing..
The upcoming Sony Ericcson X1 is something that I have my eye on and waiting patiently for it’s arrival.
BTW I love the new changes to your website. You are a truly a wonderful web0designer. *hugs*

That’s what I told a friend when he asked about 3G iPhone. I told him I rather get the first generation of iPhone.

Sadly if you are in contract and not eligible for upgrade then you will be paying the yet-to-be disclosed unsubsidized price of the new plastic toy. And still AT&T would charge full price for a current customer, but will not sell it without a contract. This is just screaming with confusion.
I didn’t buy a GEN1 iPhone, however when I become eligible in the next few months I will probably get it. I was disappointed that they made it plastic and dropped the Aluminum.
